Baked Black Bean Burgers – One of Our Favorite Easy Meatless Meals

These baked black bean burgers are full of flavor and are super simple to make. If you’re looking for meatless meal option or aren’t in the mood to grill meat burgers or pan fry them making a huge oily mess then these baked black bean burgers are for you.

I’ve been making this recipe for years now and I wouldn’t change a thing. Our family likes to spice up the week with a meatless meal option here and there and this is our go too choice!

Reasons You’re Going to Love This Recipe

A Few Simple Ingredients – With just a few simple ingredients you can have a great meal on the table the whole family will enjoy. You can serve these on a hamburger bun, lettuce wrap or I even took a leftover patty and crumbled it up into a breakfast burrito the next morning.

No Greasy Mess – With traditional burgers on the stove top or the grill, you’ll have a huge mess in the kitchen by the end of the night. In my world, less mess is best.

A Healthier Choice – You and the fam can feel good about this one. I know traditional burgers aren’t that unhealthy, but a meatless meal option is a great way to fit in more veggies throughout the week and with the black beans you still get your protein as well!

What You’ll Need to Make Baked Black Bean Burgers

Suggested Equipment You Might Need:

Collapsible Silicone Measuring Cups – to measure out the burger portions these measuring cups make it a lot easier to form the patty onto the baking sheet

A Small Electric Food Processor (or manual) – I use my manual food processor to dice my peppers and onion filling really fine so the burgers stay together better and make a more consistent texture.

Ingredients You’ll Need to Make These Baked Black Bean Burgers:

  • 1/2 bell pepper (any color) & 1/2 medium sized onion (any kind) – these will be your veggie base in these black bean burgers
  • Garlic – I use the minced jar garlic. You can use whatever you have on hand.
  • 1 Can of Black Beans – I use canned black beans but if you like preparing dried black beans you can start with that if you like.
  • Egg & Bread Crumbs – the egg will help bind everything together & the breadcrumbs will keep everything from getting to sticky. I use homemade bread crumbs but you can use whatever kind you like best.
  • Spices & Olive Oil! – In this recipe I used Tajin, Chili Powder, Cayenne Pepper, Salt, Garlic Powder, Cumin, Paprika, Ground Pepper, and Onion Powder. The flavor in these baked black bean burgers are what really makes these amazing.

Can You Freeze Homemade Black Bean Burgers?

Yes, I would suggest storing them for up to 3 months in the freezer.

  • Place uncooked black bean burgers on a flat tray.
  • Place the entire tray in the freezer until the burgers are frozen solid, 3-4 hours.
  • Remove the tray from the freezer and transfer the burgers into an airtight freezer safe container.

You could also cook them first, and once they are completely cooled you can freeze them as well. Pop them out of the freezer and re-heat them in the air fryer, or in a skillet with some oil.
